Description

Handshake was a wholesale marketplace where retailers could discover and purchase products from reliable suppliers. It was owned and developed by Shopify.

The retail side of the marketplace was open to everyone, but only registered company accounts could make purchases. On the supply side of the marketplace, only accounts from the Shopify ecosystem could list products. Access to the supplier side of the marketplace was possible through a sales channel app developed within Shopify.

I was the lead product designer working with the team responsible for the supplier side of the marketplace. A colleague also joined us on this side and, with my mentorship, grew from an intern to a junior product designer position.

My Contributions

  • I was part of trifecta leadership for the team that ownned the marketplace's supply.
  • Involved in creating strategy, mission, and vision for the area.
  • Influencing the team roadmap by presenting a summary of qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Close collaboration with the main UX researcher and conducting a few research initiatives independently.
  • Collaborated with the broader design organization within Shopify, particularly with the system design (Polaris) team as well as with teams working on other sales channels.
  • Delivery of all kinds of design assets: Lo-Fi and Hi-Fi mockups, flowcharts, journey maps, etc.
  • Presentations to the main stakeholders and other teams at Shopify, not just within our own department.
  • While working on the product, I wrote a blog post for UX Shopify about my approach to the design feedback.
